BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - The group that owns Adlai Stevenson's boyhood home plans to sell the central Illinois dwelling because it can't afford the upkeep.

The McLean County Historical Society hopes to find a buyer for the two-story house in Bloomington, under the condition that the building's exterior remain unchanged. The English Arts and Crafts-style home was built in 1899.

Society Executive Director Greg Koos (KOOZ) says an asking price hasn't been set.

He says the home has been maintained by the society, but it can no longer afford the cost and other historical agencies have declined to step in.

Stevenson is a former Illinois governor and ran for president in 1952 and '56. He also was U.S. ambassador the United Nations for four years.
