
The arrests of three people involved with the shooting death of a Springfield cab driver have been announced by the Christian County State's Attorney, and one suspect was involved in a four-hour standoff with Springfield Police Friday morning.
Early Saturday morning, 40-year-old Steven L. Brummett of Loami was shot in rural Christian County, near Pawnee. Brummett was a former Loami Fire Chief, but at the time of his death, he was working for Lincoln Checkered Cab of Springfield. He was last seen picking up a passenger Friday night. His body was found near an abandoned farm house near the Sangamon-Christian County line west of Kincaid. He had been shot in the back of the head. His vehicle was then stolen, and was spotted abandoned Sunday in Forest Park in St. Louis.
Monday morning, 26-year-old Brandon Allsup, 26-year-old Donnella Hamilton, and 20-year-old Ashley Davis were arrested. Allsup and Hamilton were charged with First Degree Murder. Davis was charged with concealment of a homicide. Allsup and Hamilton's bond has been set at $1 million. Davis' is set at $100,000.
Early Friday morning, Springfield Police surrounded a home near the corner of 3rd and Allen Streets. The believed Brandon Allsup was in the house. Thursday night, Allsup held-up a CVS Drug Store on South Grand Avenue, and then pistol-whipped a neighbor Friday morning. More than 40 officers responded to that situation. The standoff ended after four hours when police used flashbangs to enter the house. Allsup was not inside.
The suspects are to be extradited from St. Louis as soon as possible. The investigation is ongoing.
