CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - About 100 soldiers from the Illinois Army National Guard are to be welcomed home from a 1-year deployment to Afghanistan.
Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn plans to attend a homecoming ceremony for the soldiers scheduled Monday in Champaign. Another homecoming ceremony is set Monday in Machesney Park. The soldiers are members of the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team out of Urbana. They left for Afghanistan in September 2008.
Quinn says he's "honored" to welcome the soldiers home and he salutes "these men and women for their brave, selfless service."
