Coroner: Man found dead under riding mower

Associated Press - September 22, 2009 9:44 AM ET

ALHAMBRA, Ill. (AP) - The Madison County coroner says natural causes are believed to have killed a man found under his overturned lawn mower near the southwestern Illinois town of Alhambra.

Coroner Steve Nonn says 61-year-old Robert Geschwend was found Sunday by a passer-by near his home. Nonn says Geschwend wasn't mowing when the accident happened but apparently was driving the mower to a friend's nearby house.

The coroner says an autopsy showed no indication of asphyxiation or trauma from the accident, but that Geschwend had extensive heart disease.

Nonn says it's tentatively believed that Geschwend suddenly died while driving the mower, causing it to leave the road and overturn.

Toxicology tests are pending.
