DALLAS (AP) - A federal jury has returned guilty verdicts against a Dallas City Council member accused of bribery and extortion.
Former Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill was convicted Monday of seven out of nine counts against him in a bribery and extortion scheme.
The convictions came in what federal prosecutors call "the largest corruption case in Dallas City Hall history."
Prosecutors alleged that Hill and other former officials sought hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from contractors interested in building apartment complexes.
Hill's wife and several associates also were found guilty Monday of various charges related to the scheme.
Hill has maintained his innocence.
Six people have pleaded guilty, including the developer accused of bribing some of the officials.
