ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) - Prosecutors say an Arlington Heights man who was arrested in the attempted murder of his grandmother stabbed the 86-year-old woman 16 times.

A Cook County judge set bond at $2 million Friday for 24-year-old Daniel G. Levine, who is charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery.

Police say Levine told them he wanted to kill his grandmother, with whom he lived, because she never showed him respect.

Prosectors say Levine had been smoking crack cocaine in Chicago on Thursday when he got a flat tire and called for a tow. He then asked the tow truck operator where he could find a gun to kill his grandmother, and the tow truck operator reported that to police, who took him to a hospital. The stabbing reportedly occurred after he returned to his grandmother's condo later Thursday.
