SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - It didn't take long for the knives to come out in the Republican battle for Illinois governor.
Almost as soon as Andy McKenna got into the race, rival Bob Schillerstrom went on the attack.
Schillerstrom says McKenna has an "epic" conflict of interest because he laid the groundwork for running while he chaired the Illinois Republican Party. The DuPage County Board chairman also says McKenna's desire to be governor is just "a millionaire's whimsy."
McKenna officially entered the race on Tuesday.
He declined to say anything negative about his opponents but argued that his experience in business would be a plus. He also declared himself an outsider in Springfield, despite several years as Republican chairman.
