PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in Peoria say Tyler McCoy, the son of Peoria County Sheriff Michael McCoy, has been arrested on a drunken-driving charge in a September accident involving a state-owned vehicle.
The younger McCoy, who is 32, was booked Wednesday at the Peoria County Jail on the misdemeanor charge. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 2.
The misdemeanor charge carries a maximum of 1 year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
Police say the Chillicothe resident was driving home in fog the night of Sept. 27 when he swerved, allegedly to avoid a deer. The vehicle he was driving belonged to Multi-County Narcotics Enforcement Group. Officers say it left the roadway, struck a culvert, a rock drainage ditch and telephone box, then came to rest back on the road.
