SAVOY, Ill. (AP) - People lined all four walls of the formal training room at HMD Academy of Tae Kwon Do in Savoy recently to watch family members and friends test for a higher belt level.
Belts range from white to black, indicating the level of skill a person has achieved in tae kwon do.
Two people in the crowd were there to support 57-year-old Alison Fong Weingartner of Urbana, who was going to be testing for her black belt after a little more than 11 years of training.
Weingartner received her black belt after a little more than 11 years of training.
She started tae kwon do because her daughter, Fiona, was taking lessons, and instead of watching Fiona she thought a better use of her time would be to join in. After Fiona quit at age 10, Weingartner continued.
