EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A former Madison County bookkeeper already accused of stealing on the job now is facing more theft charges, this time involving a veterans' group.
Madison County prosecutors have accused 45-year-old Zita Lee of stealing more than $10,000 from the Edwardsville American Legion Post 199, where she was a veteran who volunteered by handling the books.
Lee already was facing charges of felony theft and official misconduct involving the disappearance of more than $31,000 in permit fees while she worked for the county's planning and development office.
She left that job in April, before the thefts were discovered.
Lee has filed for bankruptcy protection four times since 1989.
She now apparently lives in Texas, where she has no listed telephone number. It isn't clear if she has an attorney in Illinois.
