Decatur, IL - A Decatur child was let off at the wrong bus stop.
Avia Templar says her six-year-old daughter, Alexia, got off at the wrong location. She says her daughter never rode the bus before, the family had recently moved, and the six-year-old didn't know her new address yet. Avia says luckily, Alexia found her way to a friend's house where a parent called to have her picked up.
The Decatur mother says she's speaking out so other parents are aware. She feels the bus company should be more responsible.
"I don't want this to happen to anybody else," said Avia Templar. "I want kids to be safe and that's what they should ensure. They should ensure children's safety."
We contacted the First Student Bus Company. A spokeswoman apologizes to the child and her parents. The company encourages parents to attach a card with their children's name, phone number, and address to their backpack. The company says a child should tell the bus driver if he or she is new, and show the driver the address card while boarding the bus.
