DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - An Illinois Army National Guard unit based in Decatur has received a national award.
Officials announced Wednesday that the U.S. Transportation Command has recognized the State Flight Detachment 36, Operational Support Airlift. The unit was given the Joint Operational Support Airlift Center Unit of the Year award in the Army East small aircraft category.
Detachment members fly C-12 aircraft everyday, transporting military personnel and cargo. Officials say the unit moved about 700 passengers and hundreds of pounds of cargo last year.
