CHICAGO (AP) - Buster Posey went 4 for 4 with his 14th homer to lead Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs last night. Pablo Sandoval added three hits and two RBIs as the Giants rebounded from a 2-1 loss earlier in the day in the resumption of their suspended game. Travis Wood gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings for the Cubs.
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - Chicago held off gritty Philadelphia 6-5 last night in a matchup of inner-city teams at the Little League World Series. The loss eliminated Philadelphia and prevented star pitcher Mo'ne Davis from getting one last shot to put another stamp on what had become her personal playground. The victory sends Chicago's Jackie Robinson West into the U.S. title game tomorrow against Las Vegas.
CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have placed struggling right-hander Edwin Jackson on the 15-day disabled list with a lat strain. They've also put shortstop Starlin Castro on the bereavement list. Bereavement leave rules require that Castro must be out for three days and can miss a maximum of one week. Jackson lasted only 2 2-3 innings Wednesday.
BOSTON (AP) - The Los Angeles Angels have acquired second baseman Gordon Beckham in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. Beckham gives the AL West-leading Angels another sure-handed infielder with six seasons of major league experience. The White Sox will receive a player to be named or cash.
