CHICAGO (AP) - Tyson Ross struck out a career-high 11 as the light-hitting San Diego Padres broke out for a season-best nine runs in the sixth inning in a 13-3 rout of the Chicago Cubs last night. Ross allowed one run, five hits and one walk in six innings to reach a career high in wins. Edwin Jackson left in the sixth because of a cramp in his right hand and took the loss.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Hector Noesi (noh-eh-SEE') allowed three hits over 7 2-3 innings to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins last night. Noesi gave up two runs, struck out three and walked one in an impressive performance. Phil Hughes gave up two runs and four hits and struck out four for the Twins.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Chicago White Sox have placed right-hander Zach Putnam on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. The 27-year-old Putnam is one of several pitchers to take a crack at the closer role for the White Sox this season after Addison Reed was traded before the year started. Putnam is 3-2 with a 2.35 ERA.
CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Cubs starter Edwin Jackson left last night's game against the San Diego Padres with no outs in the sixth inning because of cramping in his right hand. Yasmani Grandal led off the sixth with a walk and Will Venable singled to right. Cubs manager Rick Renteria and a trainer then came to the mound, and Jackson left the game.
