WAND News accepts interns for unpaid internships in the News Department throughout the year.  We actively solicit applicants through job fairs and through our arrangement with the Public Affairs reporting graduate program at the University of Illinois Springfield.  During this reporting period WAND hosted 4 interns.   One of our interns during this reporting period worked mainly at our bureau in the capitol of Springfield. In connection with U of I Champaign, another intern worked at the station in Decatur as a news producer.  In connection with Millikin University of Decatur, the third intern worked at the station in Decatur as a news intern.  In connection with Patrick Henry College of Purcellville, Virginia, a fourth intern is currently working a summer program through August, 2009 as a news intern.  Each intern receives academic credit for completion of the internship.

#14

On June 10, 2009, Tracey Cole, Station Mgr., Rob Comerford, Production Mgr. and Kelly York, Business Office Administrator participated in an EEO Compliance Webinar.  Webinar was presented by Christy Burrow from lawyer firm Dow Lohnes.  The formal topic was FCC Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Compliance.  Topics discussed were EEO program, documentation and recordkeeping, general EEO policies, outreach and recruitment, notification to community groups and long-term initiatives.

#1 & #4

News Director, Jim Platzer represented WAND-TV at the IBA/Eastern Illinois University Career Fair & Career Day, October 15, 2008.  The Career Fair ran ten until noon.  Approximately 40 students stopped and asked questions about WAND-TV and job openings.  Eight students left their resume's.  All the interest was for news room jobs and internships.  There were about 10 businesses represented at the Career Fair.  News Director, Jim Platzer was pleased with the number of students looking for information and career guidance.  He recommends that we attend further events at EIU.

#1 & #4

Production Manager, Rob Comerford and Public Affairs Director Ken Frye attended the IBA/Illinois State University Career Fair.  The Career Fair ran from two until three-thirty.  Approximately 20 students stopped and asked questions about WAND-TV and job openings.  Seven students left their resume's or business cards.  Those were distributed to the appropriate departments.  There were 15 media outlets represented at the Career Fair.
