Dillard considering run for Ill. governor

CHICAGO (AP) - A Republican state senator who appeared in campaign commercials for President Barack Obama says he's considering a run for Illinois governor.

Sen. Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale told Chicago's WFLD-TV on Thursday that it's time for a change after six years of Democratic rule in Illinois that started with ousted former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Dillard has been in the state senate for 16 years and was chief of staff to former Gov. Jim Edgar. Dillard was in the spotlight during the presidential campaign when he appeared in Obama ads praising his bipartisanship.

Dillard says Gov. Pat Quinn's income tax increase shouldn't pass because the state hasn't made enough budget cuts.

The GOP field for governor already includes 1 of Dillard's colleagues in the state senate, Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington.
