ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn says he'll single out a favorite to become the Democratic nominee for Illinois lieutenant governor some time next week.
He says he'll make his decision before the Democratic Central Committee makes the final selection on March 27.
Quinn was asked at a news conference in Rosemont on Friday about reports he may favor State Sen. Susan Garrett. He responded that he wouldn't pick any preferences until later.
Garrett has spoken to Quinn about applying, but she said he didn't make any promises.
Quinn says he'd like to run with someone who's in basic agreement with him on broad principles.
He says that includes what he described as a belief that government should be "a progressive force." He also mentioned ethics and an emphasis on job creation.
