Everyday on StormCenter 17 at 5:00, we’re committed to bringing you the latest on H1N1 and the seasonal flu. Today’s focus: people with chronic medical conditions. This is one of the priority groups receiving the H1N1 vaccine now.
You should be vaccinated at this time if you have heart disease, lung disease, renal disease, asthma, diabetes, cancer, or a weakened immune system. Especially since there may be a second strain on the way.
“In the past with other pandemic flues, there have been other waves, sometimes up to three or four, so we don't know if there may be another wave, maybe not,” said Brandi Binkley for the Macon County Health Department, ”but you should definitely be prepared for that. While people see less illness in their community, less flu-like symptoms, that shouldn't make them feel like they shouldn't get this vaccination.”
Meanwhile, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is holding H1N1 clinics this week. It’s for children six months to nine-years-old who need the second H1N1 dose. Walk-ins are welcome all week from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 201 W. Kenyon Road in Champaign. It’s free regardless of where you live.
