In Villa Grove, which in Douglas County, parks have become lakes and residents there say the worst is still to come.
Douglas County is under a flood watch until 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. Residents say the area got about 15 inches of rain in less than three hours, but Douglas County EMA officials say Tuesday afternoon they got a break from the downpour and water backed off rural roads. Residents in Villa Grove say the flooding is getting started and they expect more rainwater to flow here from Champaign and Watseka.
In La Place, which is in Piatt County, families are trapped in their homes because of flooding.
One La Place man says his family has been trapped because of the floods for up to two days. He’s hoping if the rain stops for a while they'll be able to make it out by Wednesday morning. Folks in Villa Grove are preparing for the worst if it continues to rain, which is in the forecast.
Douglas County EMA says no homes have flooded seriously in Douglas County.
In Decatur, all the rain is keeping crews busy trying to clear the drains. Dan Mendenhall with Decatur Streets and Sewers says he had 14 crews out Tuesday. He says they'll be back in the streets Wednesday, trying to keep a handle on leaves and debris, and keep it out of storm drains and sewers. Crews say area residents can also chip in and remove debris if they see a clogged sewer or notify the city.
