It's a story you saw here first - a woman found murdered in her home in Springfield, now police are saying it was her son that stabbed her to death.
Wednesday morning, he is behind bars for the crime, facing First Degree Murder charges for stabbing his mother with a kitchen knife. 38-year-old Michael Seal is being held in the Sangamon County Jail on $1 million bond. Police arrested Seal after his brother called police. His brother said Seal had stabbed their 53-year-old mother, Darla Key.
It happened Monday night at the Greenwood Acres Trailer Court. Neighbors say they often heard screaming and yelling from inside the home. One neighbor says Seal had a violent past. She asked not to be identified out of fear for her own life.
"He told me after he drank was when he almost killed his wife and that alcohol was a big problem for him. All he said, over and over again, was how he hated his mother. I can't get the thought of him raising a knife and stabbing his mother to death."
The deadly stabbing is Springfield’s tenth homicide this year.
