Hundreds of Springfield families had to get ready for work and school Thursday morning in the dark. City Water Light & Power says a substation power transformer failure knocked out power to 2,700 homes about 7:45 Thursday morning in two southwest Springfield neighborhoods.

Crews restored power about an hour and a half later.
