Shelbyville, IL – Girl Scouts in Shelby County are giving soldiers overseas a taste of home.
This is the fifth year Girl Scouts sold cookies to send to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Girl Scout Troop #3510 was outside the Johnsontown Mall Saturday with other fundraising organizations that were also selling yellow ribbons and collecting donations for care packages. Event Organizer Kevin Bernson says it is great for troop morale. "It shows them we are thinking of them, we do support them and we've heard from them that they do enjoy getting it,... It lifts their spirits," says Bernson.
The girl scouts sold close to 1 thousand boxes. In the Shelbyville area, more information about sending Girl Scout cookies overseas can be found at: www.shelbyelectric.coop
