SPRINGFIELD, IL- Two groups say new transportation projects are the key to improving Illinois' economy.
The state Chamber of Commerce and the Transportation for Illinois Coalition say thousands of jobs could be created by rebuilding and improving the state's highways, bridges and railways.
The Chamber of Commerce President Doug Whitley says having a good transportation system is what drives the state's economy. He says the chamber considers transportation to be one of the cornerstones of Illinois' economy.
Both groups hope congress will pass a bill that will create a six year federal transportation funding plan.
