Deadly Shooting

One man shot to death in Springfield while another sits in jail for allegedly pulling the trigger.

It happened at about 10:45 Monday night at 1001 South Fourth St. Police say the 22-year old victim was found lying near the side of this building. He had been shot in the upper body and later died from his injuries.

Police say they do have a suspect in custody and he may have used a semi-automatic weapon.

"It seemed to be just a unneccestary shooting at this point in time, although something else may come later during the investigation, but we have no proof that it was anything more than a senseless shooting," said Springfield Police Lt. James Henry.

Police say the shooting was not gang related and they have no information on whether the suspect knew the victim. Names have not yet been released.
