Parking Enforcement Officer Attacked

Champaign, IL- A Champaign parking meter officer is back at work Monday after he was reportedly struck by a man trying to avoid a parking boot Thursday.

Kent Ravesloot is charged with three counts of aggravated battery after he reportedly drove his car into a meter officer. That officer, John Hart, was struck in the legs.

Parking enforcement officers say people often get angry when they get a ticket or boot, but they rarely resort to violence.

"For somebody to actually back into an enforcement officer or hit them with their vehicle," says Champaign Parking Enforcement Officer Shirl Johnson. "That is uncommon, that hasn't happened before."

Ravesloot is due back in court later this week. Champaign parking enforcement will discuss the incident and whether to change protocol at a meeting Monday night.
