Athlete of the Month Rules
STORMCENTER 17 HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCE OF WINNING.
1. HOW TO ENTER
a. The STORMENTER 17 HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE MONTH contest will begin on August 16, 2010 and end on May 26, 2011.
b. To nominate a student athlete go to www.wandtv.com and click on STORMCENTER 17 ATHLETE OF THE MONTH during the contest period. Completely fill out the on-line nomination form with the required information. There are no limitations on how many nominations a student athlete may receive during each monthly nomination period. However, an athlete can only be named STORMCENTER 17 HIGH SCHOOL ATHELTE OF THE MONTH one time. A nomination form may also be picked up at the offices of WAND Stormcenter 17.
c. For entries by mail, the Station is not responsible for lost, stolen, mangled, misdelivered, illegible, incomplete or late entries. Entries must be in the hands of the nominating committee on the entry deadline. For entries on the internet, the Station is not responsible for nominations not received due to problems accessing the website, service outages or delays, computer difficulties or any other technological problems.
d. Deadlines: September 12, October 10, November 7, December 12, 2010 and January 9, February 6, March 13, April 10 and May 8, 2011. Entries must be re-submitted each month. This can be done by an e-mail to the station asking that a particular entry be put back in the mix or be re-sending.
e. Athlete of the Month story will be in the 6 pm newscast on September 30, October 28, November 25, December 30, 2010 and January 27, February 24, March 31, April 28 and May 26, 2011.
2. ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS
a. The contest is open to all WAND StormCenter 17 high school seniors (male or female) who participate in IHSA varsity sports and are currently enrolled at a high school (9-12) in the following counties: Cass, Champaign, Christian, Coles, Cumberland, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Fayette, Ford, Iroquois, Logan, Macon, Menard, Morgan, Moultrie, Piatt, Sangamon, Shelby, and Vermillion in Illinois and Warren in Indiana. If an athlete quits school or moves to a school not in one of the above mentioned counties, that athlete will not be eligible to be considered for the STORMCENTER 17 HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE MONTH. The student must be participating in the varsity sport they are nominated for at the time of the nomination (football in football months, volleyball in volleyball months, softball in softball months, etc.). Example: A softball player cannot be nominated in a fall month.
b. The nominated athlete must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have a history of academic, athletic and community accomplishments.
c. Employees of WAND-TV (the "Station"), its licensee, its corporate parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates, its advertising agencies, participating sponsors/promotional partners, other television stations in the Champaign/Springfield/Decatur DMA and the members of their immediate families (son or daughter) are ineligible to participate or win. Subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
d. You must be 13 years of age or older to submit a nomination for this Contest. The committee will disqualify and remove any nomination received from persons under the age of 13 in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
e. Athlete can be nominated many times, but may only win one time.
f. All information supplied on the nominations forms must be verified. Participating high schools will be responsible for verifying the GPA. Any information that is submitted and found to be fraudulent, the committee has the right to reject that student's nomination.
a. Each Athlete of the Month winner will receive a trophy or plaque (valued at under $75) and a $1,000 check will be presented to the school's athletic department .
b. Trophy/plaque will be presented to the Student Athlete of the Month at a time determined by the student/school/WAND-TV News Department to make the presentation and to do a story about the Athlete.
c. The $1,000 check to the school's athletic department will be presented by representatives from WAND TV and Cohn Furniture at a time determined between the school and representatives.
d. One of the nine monthly winners will also receive a $20,000 college scholarship provided by Land of Lincoln Credit Union. A special committee will review the nine winners and through a selection process select one student for the scholarship. This scholarship will be provided to the college the student has been accepted to and enrolled in for the fall 2011 in increments of up to $5,000 per year. If the student drops out, the remainder of the scholarship will be forfeited.
4. WINNER SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION
a. All decisions of the Station management with respect to the contest are final.
b. One monthly winner will be selected each month during the contest and contacted by a member(s) of the selection committee after verification of their eligibility. Winners will be posted on WAND TV's website and in a special feature story on a selected newscast of WAND TV.
c. Each committee member will rank the nominees from 10 to 1 with 10 being the top selection, 9 the second, and so on. The nominee with the most points will be determined as that month's Athlete of the Month. If there is a tie, then the nominee with the most "10" rankings will be determined the Athlete. If there is still a tie, then the nominees GPA will be used as a tie-breaker.
d. The winner does not need to be present to win.
a. Payments of all federal, state and local taxes are solely the responsibility of the winners. Winners may be required to sign an IRS Form W-9 or the equivalent.
b. By participating in the contest, the winner or winners agree to have their name, voice, or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest without additional financial or other compensation, and, where legal, to sign a publicity release confirming such consent prior to acceptance of the prize.
c. Prior to awarding any prize or prize certificate, the Station in its sole discretion may require contest winners to sign a liability release, agreeing to hold the Station, its corporate licensee, its parent, subsidiary and affiliated corporations, and the officers, shareholders, directors, employees, agents and representatives of each of them harmless against any and all claims or liability arising directly or indirectly from the prize or participation in the contest.
d. The Station reserves the right to make changes in the rules of the contest, including the substitution of a prize or equivalent value, which will become effective upon announcement.
e. The Station also reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the nomination process or in violation of the rules.
f. Failure to comply with any Contest rules may result in disqualification of the nominee at the sole discretion of the Station.
g. The Station is not responsible for typographical or other errors in the printing, the offering or the administration of the contest, or in the announcement of a prize.
h. Copies of the written contest rules and a list of winners (when complete) are available during regular business hours at the main studio of WAND TV, 904 South Side Drive, Decatur, IL 62521.
