Police Investigate Murder In Champaign County


CHAMPAIGN, IL- The Champaign County Sheriff Department is investigating the murder of a man east of Rantoul.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the Bell Apartments on County Road 3000 North around 1:00 p.m. Saturday after a 21 year-old man was found dead by a neighbor there.

The man was later identified as Marcus Brown, nicknamed "Boo Man". The Sheriff's Offices and the County Coroner began investigating the death as suspicious.

During an autopsy Monday, it was discovered that Brown was the victim of a single gunshot wound to a vital organ and police began a homicide investigation.

The Champaign County Coroner believes Brown was shot sometime between 10 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. The victim may have known the suspect or suspects involved, as there was no indication of forced entry.

The motive of this crime is not yet known. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 373-TIPS (8477).
