CHAMPAIGN, IL - On May 1, 2011, at approximately 4:36 p.m., Champaign police officers responded to Market Place Mall for a report of a reckless vehicle containing a passenger in possession of a gun.

A witness reported seeing the vehicle near the food court at mall. When officers arrived at the mall to locate the vehicle, they heard shots fired and then observed an active shooter firing multiple rounds at a male subject.

Several subjects who were present in the area have been detained to determine their level of involvement in this case. Police are also interviewing witnesses and will provide more information as it becomes available.
