Champaign – Construction continues on the sanitary sewer extension project on Kenwood Road north and south of John Street, and on Jackson Street. The construction schedules discussed below are weather dependent, thus delays may occur with rainy weather.
For the Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 27 through Monday, May 31, 2011, existing traffic control will remain in place on Kenwood Road and John Street, that restricts traffic to local access only within the barricades. However, barricades will be adjusted to allow local traffic to flow more smoothly. Note that this traffic control prohibits the passage of through traffic on Kenwood Road between William Street and Springfield Avenue, and on John Street between Crescent Drive and Duncan Road.
From 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 31, until 4:30 p.m. on June 1, 2011, the intersection of Kenwood Road and John Street will be completely closed for the installation of a deep sanitary sewer manhole. During this time, no traffic will be allowed through the intersection in either direction. During the intersection closure, the Champaign Park District Bresnan Center may be accessed by traveling north on Kenwood Road from William Street. On June 2, 2011, John Street will be opened to through traffic, including the intersection at Kenwood Road.
From Tuesday, May 31 to Friday, July 8, 2011, Kenwood Road, from William Street to Springfield Avenue, will remain closed to through traffic 24 hours a day. Local traffic will have access to drives at these times, but individual drives and parking lot access may be blocked when the contractor is working in front of the drive.
During construction operations vehicular traffic should follow all traffic signage and use caution when traveling in the area. The public's cooperation and patience during the work is appreciated.
