Champaign, IL- A Champaign man is dead after gunfire erupted on a street corner early Friday morning. Now, his family is left wondering how a fight turned so tragic.
Police say 26-year-old Nathan Barker was shot to death at the intersection of Bradley and McKinley Avenue around 2:45 a.m. Friday.
Police identified 24-year-old Keonte Campbell as a suspect in the shooting. They believe a fight between the two men lead to the incident.
But Barker's family says they can't imagine why the fight happened, or why turned violent.
"All he ever did was show love, he was a proud father and a family man," Nathan's cousin, Darrell Barker said.
"We don't know the story behind the fight... it still doesn't feel like a reality," he said.
Nathan Barker leaves behind two young children.
Campbell, the suspect, is in custody. He faces charges of first degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
