DECATUR, IL- Decatur Police have made a second arrest in connection with the September 3rd murder of 17 year-old Mishyra Wheeler and according to court documents the shooting may have been retaliation.
Roderick Dickerson, 28, was arrested Monday and charged with first degree murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Last month police arrested 37 year-old Dennis Davis near Macomb for his alleged involvement in the murder of Wheeler.
According to sworn statements, a witness told police that both Davis and Dickerson made statements implicating themselves in the shooting. The witness also told police that Davis and Dickerson were seeking revenge for the August 22nd murder of 19 year-old Marvin Dickerson and that Wheeler was not the intended target of the attack.
During the investigation, police learned that Davis is the cousin to both Roderick and Marvin Dickerson. A witness was also able to pick Davis out of a photo lineup and identified him as one of the shooters.
Decatur Police received a report from the state police crime lab indicating that spent shell casings from the scene of Mishyra Wheeler's murder matched shell casings from an incident that occurred August 24th in which Roderick Dickerson was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon by a felon.
Dickerson is now being held in the Macon County Jail on $5 million bond.
Davis has plead not guilty to murder and is scheduled to be back in court for a pre-trail hearing November 15th.
