DECATUR, IL- The Macon County Sheriff's Department made two arrests over the weekend in one of the state's biggest synthetic marijuana busts.
Deputies searched the Decatur Food Mart on North Oakland Avenue Saturday night and seized more than 6,800 grams of synthetic pot. Deputies say the fake pot is worth around $28,000.
Police also found a gun, ammunition and a small amount of marijuana inside the store.
Deputies arrested Nazmi Abdallah on possession of a look-alike substance with intent to deliver and weapons charges.
Zeyad Abdallah was also arrested on possession of a look-alike substance, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm and ammo by a felon charges.
"This is one of the largest synthetic cannabis seizures in the State of Illinois since the new law took effect on January 1," Macon County Sheriff Tom Schneider says. "Local law enforcement is committed to protecting our youth from the effects of these substances, which in some cases have resulted in death."
The sheriff says the investigation into this case is ongoing and more charges could be filed.
