HOMER, IL- The Champaign County Sheriff's Department is now investigating a shooting incident that left one man dead late Monday night.

Police say deputies were called out to a home in the 600 block of West 4th Street in Homer around 10:15 p.m. Monday.

When deputies arrived, they found 26 year-old Shawn Berkman dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police say Berkman's 30 year-old wife and three young children were home at the time. Officers say the kids were asleep during the incident and were not harmed. Investigators have interviewed Berkman's wife and say she is cooperating with the sheriff's department.

Police say no arrests have been made at this point and there was "evidence of a violent physical domestic dispute" at the home.

Champaign County Corner Duane Northrup says an autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.
