Shawn BerkmanCHAMPAIGN, IL- An autopsy has found that 26 year-old Shawn Berkman of Homer died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Berkman was shot inside his home in the 600 block of West 4th Street Monday night. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup performed Berkman's autopsy Wednesday.
Deputies say there was evidence of a violent physical domestic dispute in the home Monday night and Berkman's wife and three children were home at the time.
The Champaign News-Gazette reports that no charges will be filed against Berkman's wife, Amanda Berkman.
Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz says preliminary information indicates that the shooting was in self-defense.
