KANKAKEE COUNTY, IL- A crash over the weekend kills one passenger and sends three other people to a hospital, including a fire chief and state trooper.
Police say a vehicle rolled and ended up in a ditch on I-57 south early Sunday morning.
As the Otto Township Fire Chief was responding to the scene, a state trooper approached, was unable to slow down and struck the fire vehicle. Both the fire chief and state trooper were taken to Riverside Medical Center with minor injuries.
A 37 year-old Champaign woman was the driver of the crash they were responding to. She was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries while her male passenger died.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
