URBANA, IL- A Champaign man was convicted in court Thursday for the September beating death of a homeless man.
A jury found Jermaine Davis, 36, guilty of first degree murder. Police say Davis attacked 54 year-old Russell Stokes in an apartment on East Park Street September 16 after finding Stokes engaged in a sex act with Davis' girlfriend, Constance Chapple.
Police say Chapple helped Davis drag Stokes outside the apartment and they left him there. Stokes died at Carle Hospital a few days later.
Chapple, 45, is charged with obstructing justice and concealing a murder. She has pleaded not guilty and will be back in court in April.
