CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Members of First United Methodist Church were learning about laughing Saturday morning.
Tom Neufer Enswiler instructed "Laugh Louder...Live Longer." He said studies show laughter is directly related to being healthy, adding that there are two sides of laughter. Evidence also shows bad things can happen when humor is being used to hurt others.
"Some of the school shootings have indicated that part of what motivated them to do that was being laughed at and made fun of," Enswiler said. "It has two different dimensions, and we need to be aware of both."
People there were getting laughs through YouTube videos, comic strips and works from comedians and philosophers.
Studies show added health benefits of laughing include lower anxiety, stress relief and heart disease prevention.
