According to a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development report, over 14,000 people were homeless in Illinois in 2009.
And in 2010 that number increased by 340 people.
Pastors in the local ministerial association are now working on a plan to build a homeless transitional center for Pana and surrounding areas.
Pana Christian Church pastor Joe Mollet,"we're constantly just giving them something to care of them just for today. And the question is always what about tomorrow?"
The Pana Ministerial Association is still looking at possible locations to start building the transition shelter.
They're are also beginning to search for grants to help make the shelter a reality.
