FAYETTE COUNTY, IL- A fiery crash early Sunday morning in Fayette County leaves two dead and a third person in a St. Louis hospital.
Police say Robert and Shawn Norris were traveling south on Route 51 near Fayette County Road when they were struck head-on by a car that had crossed into their lane. Robert died from injuries sustained during the crash and Shawn was injured and is now in the hospital.
The Vandalia Fire Department says when firefighters arrived on the scene, the northbound vehicle had caught fire. The driver inside was burned so badly that he or she could not be identified.
The crash is still under investigation by the Fayette County Coroner and the Illinois State Police. An autopsy on the unidentified driver will be held Monday where dental records will be used to identify the body.
