Quinn says he's done better than a C grade on jobs

Posted:

CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn says he deserves a better grade on his job-creation policies than the C given to him by the head of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber's president, Doug Whitley, said earlier Monday he'd give Quinn a C or C+ grade on jobs.

Quinn responded at a news conference later Monday that at least one group -- the United Auto Workers -- would give him an A after helping to convince Chrysler to add 1,800 workers at its Belvidere plant.

Whitley spoke as he launched a two-day speaking tour to weigh in on measures he believes Illinois should take to improve the state's business climate.

Whitley praised Quinn for putting a renewed focus on international trade. But he says Quinn hasn't done enough to control state spending.
