Millikin University President Dr. Harold Jeffcoat
DECATUR, IL- Millikin University in Decatur has announced it will be giving incoming students a break.
The school says it plans to freeze tuition and not increase housing prices for the next school year.
Currently, a full time student's tuition at Millikin is $27,852 a year, plus $5,000 for housing. Those prices will remain flat for all traditional, evening undergraduate and graduate programs next year.
President Dr. Harold Jeffcoat says the price freeze is the first step in the university's move toward a sustained pricing effort.
"We are doing whatever we can to stop the trend of yearly tuition increases in higher education and to help families better afford a private education," said Jeffcoat. "While we can't make any promises about the long-term future, we intend to continue holding down prices for as long as possible."
Jeffcoat said that while some schools have cut tuition in recent years, most were unable to keep costs down. He says Millikin wanted a "systemic change, not a marketing ploy."
