CHAMPAIGN, IL- Champaign Police have arrested a Mahomet man for allegedly video taping women and children in a coffee shop restroom.
Police received a tip on February 13 from a woman who said she saw a video recording device mounted in the ladies' room in Espresso Royale on East Daniel Street in Champaign.
The woman told police that after she saw the camera, she said something about it to an Espresso Royale employee. She says both her and the employee then saw a man go toward the ladies' room and then quickly leave the coffee shop.
Police say when they got to the shop, the video camera was gone but several personal items were left behind which led detective to the Mahomet home of 57 year-old Michael Denight.
Denight was arrested last Thursday and is currently being held in the DeWitt County Jail pending federal charges. Police allegedly discovered hundreds of pictures of women at his home which appear to have been taken without their consent. Some of the girls identified in the pictures were between the ages of 12 and 15 years old.
The investigation into this case is ongoing and anyone with additional information should contact Champaign Police, 403-6900, or Crime Stoppers, 373-TIPS.
