FREEBURG, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities in the southern Illinois village of Freeburg say they're investigating a half-dozen fires as suspicious.
The six fires have happened since April 23, with four since Monday. Sgt. Michael Hundelt of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department says the fires are targeted in uninhabited buildings, like barns and sheds. Hundelt says police are asking residents to be vigilant of any suspicious people or activities. No one was injured in the blazes.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/JjrDPj) the most recent fire was Wednesday at the Belleville Optimist Rodeo.
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department, the Illinois State Fire Marshal and the Freeburg Police Department are investigating the fires.
Freeburg is about 20 miles southeast of St. Louis.
