They're Here: Emerald Ash Borers Invade Decatur

Posted:

If you're seeing signs your tree is infest, it's already too late.

"There's nothing you can do," Robert Romer.

"If they're not controlled and trees are not treated, it will wipe out every ash tree in Decatur."

It's an infestation that wreaked havoc in Michigan.

"They lost approximately 10-million trees to the Emerald Ash Borer," says Romer.

To prevent further spreading of the ash borer Romer recommends taking the tree down immediately and properly dispose it.

"As long as the limbs are chopped into one-inch particle size, they're fine, it will get rid of any bugs that are in the limbs.  The trunks are supposed to be de-barked to get rid of any of the larvae that are still in there," explains Romer.
