DECATUR, IL- City of Decatur leaders are considering possible solutions to a long standing problem in town: Decatur Police say they need more room.
Council members discussed options to help fund the $15 million new facility at Monday night's meeting.
The city council discussed the possibility of an increase in property or utility taxes, a motor fuel tax or a combination of the two to pay for the proposed building.
According to Decatur City Manager Ryan McCrady, technology has changed and with a new building the department could have the latest tool to help fight crime.
The city has not decided of an exact location for the proposed plan; however, there is a preference for the building to be in the Wabash Crossing area or close to the current law enforcement building downtown.
