CHAMPAIGN - It was an exciting morning for students and teachers at Westview Elementary.
Not just because it's their last day of school, but because they're celebrating a groundbreaking for a 7 million dollar expansion and renovation.
Students watched as school board members dug into the ground behind Westview on Russell Street in Champaign.
The project includes a new gym, more classroom space, while the current school will undergo extensive improvements inside
Next year students will go to the former Carrie Busey Elementary building on Kirby Avenue.
The 1-percent sales tax increase put into effect back in 2009 will pay for the project.
Construction will start June 18th.
