CHAMPAIGN -- Hot weather and little rain is helping sales at some hardware stores.
Do It Best Hardware owner George Edwards says they're keeping up with the heat. Minimal rain has water products boosting the store's bottom dollar.
Edwards said he's keeping the shelves stocked, adding the store's best sellers are garden hoses.
"Just tons and tons and tons of them," he said. "You get what you pay for."
And people are buying up -- the most durable (and expensive) hoses were sold out Tuesday.
But quality requires upkeep -- including watering plants the proper way.
"People tend to just spray [the plant's leaves with water]," Edwards said. "That does nothing."
Instead, he advises homeowners to directly water plants' soil.
Although water products add up to a bigger water bill, Edwards says the key to keeping your lawn green is just that -- "water, water water," he said.
