Att. Murder Trial To Be Moved


EFFINGHAM, IL- A man accused of stabbing two women will have his trial moved out of Effingham County.

A judge ruled that Gary Schmitt, 47, will stand trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Hillsboro.

Police say Schmitt stabbed a woman and her teenage daughter in their home in Effingham back in January 2011. Schmitt was arrested a short time later. The victims both recovered.

Schmitt is now facing charges of attempted murder.

Schmitt is also accused of killing his father, 72 year-old Jack Schmitt, in his Effingham home in June 2010.

Schmitt's attorneys say they will go for an insanity defense in both cases.
