CHAMPAIGN -- It's the start of summer break, but some pools are empty.
Cold June temperatures have been forcing a few local pools to close their gates, including Sholem Aquatics Center. It was closed Friday and Saturday morning.
The pool will only open if it's warmer than 68 degrees outside, but it was 63 degrees Saturday morning -- too cold to open according to David Grider, Champaign Parks Aquatics Coordinator.
Employees say they're ready to make a proper splash into summer.
"We're hoping it gets hotter these next couple days so we can get kids and families out here having fun," Grider said.
After an afternoon warm-up, the pool re-opened at 3 p.m.
