EIU Introduces New Women's Head Coach

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) -- New Eastern Illinois University women's basketball coach Lee Buchanan says he has waited and prepared for years for the chance to run a Division I program.

Buchanan was introduced as the new head coach Monday. He was hired last week. Buchanan moves up from his role as associate head coach for the Panthers. Buchanan replaces Brady Sallee who left earlier this month to become head coach at Ball State University.

Buchanan came to Eastern in 2007. He has been a coach for 26 years and was a head coach at Missouri-St. Louis, Francis Marion University and Brescia University. His record is 353-204.

Buchanan says he'll quickly start looking for assistants to fill several vacancies on his staff.

The Panthers were 22-9 last season.
