Families lose everything in Danville motel fire

Posted:

DANVILLE -- Twenty-six people lost nearly everything in a fire at the Oaklawn Motel Annex in Danville late Saturday night. Help from the Red Cross runs out on Wednesday, and some are desperately seeking help.

Anthony Feigel was out digging in the debris for lost belongings Monday.

"All our stuff is collapsed underneath it," Feigel said. "We're recovering little bitty stuff. It's pretty much all we can do."

Feigel said finding his wallet in the mess was "a glimmer of hope," but his family's future is an uphill battle.

Feigel, his fiance and four month old daughter lived in the motel month-to-month. The Red Cross is giving them temporary shelter at the Days Hotel.

"But as of Wednesday, we're gonna be homeless," said Feigel.

Friends of fire victims are asking for help. Donations can be dropped off at the Danville Bar & Grill, located at 1827 E. Main St. in Danville.

A relief fund is also being set up at First Financial Bank in Danville.
